After looking at these two versions of our Flag, explain the symbolism you see in "White Flag". Is it different than in the red, white, and blue flag? Does it make you see the flag differently? Why or why not?

I will share more of my thoughts later because I don't want to influence your thinking too much, but one of the things "White Flag" makes me think is that the Flag is "tired". At the time Jasper Johns did this work our country was recovering from the 2nd war we had been involved in the previous 10 to 15 years. Since the Flag is such a strong symbol and "White Flag" has a faded look, one thing it makes me feel is tired. When I look at "Flag" I feel inspired and a little more upbeat. - Mr. K.
I think that the white flag is kind of worn out and sad. I think it is different than the red, white, and blue flag because the red white and blue flag looks excited and it does not. When I first looked at it I thought it looked kind of weird. But now I do not. I also think that it feels bad for the country who lost the war because America is an happy place that cares for others. The regular American flag looks like it is ready to fight ad is spunky and determind to win the war. I think that the white American flag looks like it is tired because it just fought in the war. Also because it is probably sad about all the soilders that died in the war. I also think that the other country that just fought America would like the white American flag better because the flag looks more worn out and since the other country lost the war they would be happy America is tired.

"White flag" sort of looks like it has more stars and stripes then "Flag" so it looks ancient and more important. "Flag" is ready to fight unlike "White Flag" Which has already fought the war and did good. Once I saw "White Flag" I thought "Flag" was more important. Because it is ready to fight the war.

I think for every guy that died the flag got a little whiter. The white flag makes me feel tired. I think the white flag looks different than the other one because other one has color and this one doesn't.

I think why the flag #2 is gray is because all of the color is drained out of the flag for all of the people who died in the war.
and I think white flag is sort of sad because it is dull. I think flag is really happy because it is not fading at all. It makes me think like flag has a very happy life and white flag is hard working

I think that they probably forgot to color the flag and made people think that it was supposed to look that way or maybe they thought that when a soldier dies they could honor them by making the flag look sadder. It is different than the red, white, and blue flag because the white one has no color and it is harder to see the symbol on the white than it is on the colored one. I kinda feel sad when I look at the white flag because it seems old and worn down.

i think "white flag" looks as if it has been through a hard time and is now trying to recover its dignety, which would be its color. "flag" seems more as if it is trying to stand up for its dignety. "white flag" looks as if it has been through a lot and almost seems torn up but "flag" is like a runner and just keeps going and going. this makes me think that our flag has been through a lot more than us and knows how to fight much harder than us for the country. before i wrote this i really had to study "white flag", i started thinking that the flag represents that our country has fought for our freedom and we will fight as hard as we can to keep our freedom even if we get all torn up and even die, we will fight hard.

the difference i see in "white flag" and "flag" is a lot of people wear the red, white, and blue flag and not a lot of people wear white flag on there close like flag.
the flags make me see them in a different way because one is smaller and lighter then the other. in "flag" there are some symboism like the stars and stripes. in "white flag" are some but they are hard to see.

I was thinking about equal rights when I looked at the flag and how it looks kind of gray like people of all different skin colors live here and fight for our country and the flag is a mixture of those colors. Although we are all different we are all united as Americans.

I've always thought recess before lunch was an interesting idea. After reading the article it makes me want to consider the option even more. One question I have is that should we extend the lunch time a little if we do this. I know now that some kids take a little bit of their recess time to finish their lunch. It will be interesting to see what you all, as students, think about this idea. - Mr. K.
I think that it is a great idea to have resess before lunch that way we will not get cramps, and will not feel rushed to finish lunch.

I think it is a good idea to have recess before lunch so we can have a longer lunch. I feel like I need to finish my lunch real fast with only 15 minutes.

I think we should have recess before lunch, so that many more kids will eat their lunch and not feel rushed to have to get out to recess. with that I think we should possibly have an half an hour to eat so we have time to eat and also digest. Right now everyone is stuffing there lunch down real fast then going outside and running around which is not very good for our digestion system.- Grace #6
I think it is a great idea. The kids have run and played and had their social time, so they come in hungry. There is a smaller noise level, and the kids eat their lunch faster. They are tired and ready to learn, and they eat more and don't throw away as much food. The kids who play soccer don't get cramps because they haven't had enough digestion time. The kids can actually finish their lunch in 15 minutes.-Noah

Well, I guess it would be okay, because you won't get cramps if you bring lots of food, and maybe more time to eat lunch, that would be very helpful because I usually don't have that much to eat. -Jason
